IT'S HOT OUTSIDE!!!

It has been CRAZY HOT these past 2 weeks. It's so important that we take every measure to keep out pets safe during this time. Shaving your dog is not necessarily the best idea to keep your Husky cool. While it is important to brush out as much of the loose fur as possible to allow better airflow through the coat, shaving them can leave them vulnerable to over-exposure and sunburn.

Everyone knows to NEVER leave your dog in the car when the weather is even moderately hot. The inside of our cars heat up so fast it's just best to not even take the chance. Not even in the shade. If you can't take them inside with you, it's best to leave them at home in the air conditioned house.

Please don't walk your dog in the heat of the day. Always put your hand on the ground and see how hot it is. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your baby's paws.

If your dogs are outdoor dogs, like mine are, extra precautions MUST be taken. The dogs have to have shade and cool water. For us, personally, we will not leave them alone for more than an hour or two. There is always someone here to make sure the misters are working properly, they have plenty of cool water in their dishes, and we even have some electric fans set up to keep the air moving in the kennel areas. throughout the day we take the water hose and spray the ground, the concrete and even the trees to cool things down a little more. Some of the dogs don't like the water hose or the wading pools to start with, but we gradually work with them till they are comfortable. They usually end up loving it.

Here are a couple videos that we took of Neeta and Ridge getting used to the water. I thought it was so cute. We cant be worried about getting wet or muddy when we're trying to keep them cool.
